Sonia Scharfbillig completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours in 2000 and went on to complete a Master of Musculoskeletal and
Sports Physiotherapy in 2004, both at the University of South Australia.
She completed the requirements for the title of Women’s, Men’s and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist from the Australian Physiotherapy
Association in 2011.
Sonia is a member of the:
· Australian Physiotherapy Association;
· International Continence Society;
· Continence Health Australia;
· Adelaide Pelvic Pain Network;
· South Australian Society of Hypnosis
The following areas of pelvic floor dysfunction can be assessed and managed at Pelvic Floor Health:
· leakage from the bladder with coughing, sneezing, exercise (known as stress incontinence)
· bladder urgency (overwhelming urges to empty, feeling like you need to go to the toilet all the time)
· vaginal prolapse (bulging and heaviness through the vaginal area)
· assessment of the pelvic floor muscles before/after prolapse or incontinence surgery
· assessment of the pelvic floor muscles before/after prostate surgery
· weak pelvic floor muscles (after pregnancy or childbirth)
· altered sensation during intercourse (feeling too loose through the vaginal area)
· painful intercourse (feeling too tight through the vaginal area or painful ejaculation)
· chronic pelvic pain (people assigned female or male at birth)
· male chronic pelvic pain
· leakage from the bowel
· difficulty emptying the bowels (constipation or obstruction)
· coccyx pain
